Alright folks, get ready to have your hair blown back. The Milford Road from Lake Te Anau to Milford Sound, though prone to avalanches, passes through some of the most jaw-dropping terrain I have ever seen. I’m talking snow capped mountains, waterfalls, glacial rivers, more mountains, the famous Mirror Lakes, valleys and rainforest. It’s hardcore awesome.
However, to experience the awesome, our travel agent booked us on the geriatric express. Toilet brakes every fifteen minutes, shuffling off the bus for photo opportunities every half hour then waiting for everyone to get back on. But it was more than worth it to see what we saw, and much safer than us trying to make the trip alone.
Major highlights included the Mirror Lakes, The Chasm, and, of course, cruising Milford Sound. Fun fact about the Sound: it’s not a sound at all, but a fjord. The difference being that former is made by a river and has a v-shaped bottom and the latter a glacier with a u-shaped bottom.
As for the rest, I’ll let the 4 billion photos speak for themselves.
