On our return trip to Christchurch the weather was much improved and we had a bit of time for a proper look around. The city is like nothing we’d ever experienced. There’s empty lots and half demolished, derelict buildings everywhere. But there are also new buildings going up and a new city rising. There are works of art and planter boxes in the most unlikely places, pop up bars and cafes and an entire mall built from brightly-painted shipping containers.
After a day exploring the city and botanic gardens we had an Indian feast (to call it dinner would be a gross misrepresentation) at Himalayas and saw a very scary looking prostitute (on a street corner, not at the restaurant) before rolling back to our room at the Rendezvous Hotel to pack.
We were very sad to head to the airport and back to Melbs the next day after such an amazing trip, and we spent much of the flight back planning our next adventure.
